    Hurricanes & Spitfires - 3 Vs 7 - Glossop NE
Man of the Match: Raffi & Ben
Goal(s) Scored by: Raffii, Adam, Ben
A few nerves going into this prequel to Vulcans came out flying and looked the better team for the first minutes before going behind to unlucky goal when Fin was unable to keep hold of the ball. Caelan shot just wide and Vulcans continued to pile on the pressure via their attractive brand of football, with Ruben hitting the crossbar with a long range shot.

Glossop played to their strength(s) and their long ball game paid off when they added a second with a speculative lob. Raffi grabbed one back with a powerful shot before events began to conspire against our boys. Glossop added a third and fourth, including a penalty. Raffi had a header just wide and Caelan hit the bar but nothing was going right for Vulcans.

Glossop finished 6-1 winners in the first game - the fifth a freakish overhead kick and the last a direct punt form their keeper that Fin stopped but was unable to keep out the rebound.

The supporters were a miserable bunch during the half-time interval, Gill declaring it 'a whupping', Col claiming he was 'lost for words', while (for once) Kev really was lost for words.

Fortunately the boys came out for the second match in a much more positive frame of mind. Ben showed his usual grit and determination, Adam and Markel proved lots of options and Ted was his usual dependable self in defence. Ben hit a free kick over the bar, Adam shot wide before Markel was fouled just outside the box (according to the referee, who was getting more and more 'advice' from the normally mild-mannered Alison Harney). Adam placed the kick just wide and it looked like Vulcans' lack of fortune was continuing. Tom, playing a solid game, headed just wide before Glossop took the lead. Freddie prevented Vulcans going further behind with a fingertip save.

The boys' heads never went down though and Adam equalised with a well-taken half-volley before Ben got his reward for a lot of hard work to claim the second game 2-1.

The result was disappointing, but there were a lot of positives from the game. Vulcans played by far the better football and can beat this team. The final word goes to Andy Day: "The phoenix will rise from the ashes!"

    Hurricanes & Spitfires - 3 Vs 3 - FC Sports
Man of the Match: Caelan & Joel
Goal(s) Scored by: Raffi, Nic, Ben.
Shocking weather for this early kick off - flood lights on and driving sleet caused some to treat this as a 'drive-in' match and watch from the comfort of the van. Despite the appalling conditions, both teams played attractive football and a draw was probably a fair result. Raffi gave Vulcans the lead with a great free kick before Nic added a second. Cam kept out the opposition as last man, Fin made some great saves, while at the other end Caelan and Erik were causing the opposition a lot of problems.
Vulcans were unlucky to concede in the final minutes of the half to leave the match finely balanced. Ruben put Caelan through with a great pass but the keeper saved. Nic had a volley saved on the line and the first match finished 2-1.
Ben extended the Vulcans' lead in the second game, slotting the ball in at the far post. FC Sports pulled a goal back but Vulcans kept pressing. Ashton had a long range shot saved and Adam went close with a header that rebounded off the bar. Ben turned the defence inside out was denied by a great save. FC Sports scored a great second goal to make it 3-3 on aggregate - a great all round performance by all the lads in difficult circumstances.

    Hurricanes & Spitfires - 1 Vs 2 - Failsworth Dynamo Blues
Man of the Match: Cam & Joel
    Goal(s) Scored by: Raffi
After a two week layoff spent stuffing their faces turkey and chickpeas (vegetarians catered for Kev), this match against beaten cup semi-finalists was always going to be difficult. Failsworth are a physically strong team who play to their strengths and had the most of early play. The teams were well matched in the first half - Caelan had a shot saved and Cam saw his overhead kick go over from Ruben's corner before Raffi claimed the first goal with a fine individual goal.
Vulcans had a lot of pressure in the second half, with Caelan and Kensie linking up well. Ruben, Raffi and Nic drew great saves from their keeper but Vulcans were unable to add to the lead and led 1-0 after the first game.
The first half in game two was just as tight. Markell and Ashton were unable to convert chances and Matty kept us in the game with a brilliant goal-line clearance. Ben played his usual game of chasing everything in sight but was unable to connect with anything and began to get a little frustrated! Freddie kept hold of the lead with some fine saves, but, as is often the case, Failsworth took advantage in the final two minutes with two goals from defensive errors to snatch a keenly-fought 2-1 victory. Congrats to them ... but we are in the Primary Cup Final!

    14/12/2013 - EMJFL
    Hurricanes & Spitfires - 12 Vs 2 - Stockport Junior Blues
    Man of the Match: tbc
Goal(s) Scored by: Ben (4), Caelan (2), Adam (2), Ashton (2), Nic, Joel
A comfortable win for the boys once again as they continued to sweep teams aside, scoring freely and dominating the game. It was another great all round squad performance, with coaches able to rotate players to give everyone a decent run out. Fin saved twice early on and went on to keep a clean sheet in the first game. Joel had a fantastic game, turning the opposition inside out with his mazy runs. Nic came close with a couple of shots before Caelan put Vulcans one up just before half-time, a sweet shot over their goalie. Joel provided assists for Caelan and Nic before grabbing a wondergoal of his own, lobbing the keeper from near half-way to make it 4-0 at the final whistle.
As usual, the second team went out to surpass the first, with Ben taking over Joel's role, scoring two quick goals after beating defenders with great footwork. Junior Blues had a brief revival, scoring twice before Adam made it 7-2 at half-time. Kensie hit the bar before Ben bagged his hat-trick with a shot into the bottom corner. Ben scored again, Vulcans hit the post twice (Adam and Markel) and then really took advantage of a demoralised opposition. Adam scored with a powerful free-kick and Ashton wrapped things up with two goals in a minute.
The boys adapted well to difficult conditions, strong winds held the ball up or made it fly, depending which way they were kicking. Like all the best teams at the moment, Vulcans are having a real purple patch, scoring at will and full of confidence. Merry Christmas to one and all!

    30/11/2013 - Cup Semi final
    Denton Youth - 4 Vs 10 - Reddish Vulcans
Man of the Match: Raffi & Nic
    Goal(s) Scored by: Raffi (2), Ruben (1), Nic (5), Ben (1), Markel (1)
You could feel the tension in the air ahead of this cup semi final between two in form teams. Colin Brunton was feeling very optimistic ahead of the game predicting a 3-2 win for Vulcans in the first game and a 6-0 win for Vulcans in the second game. He was given odds of 5-1 of two correct scores and lucky for him did not place the bet!
Vulcans started the first game well and were on the front foot until Denton hit on the break to go one up against the run of play. Vulcans kept going and didn’t let this early goal affect their passing style of football. Eric was unlucky not to score from a good chance and Finn made a great double save to prevent an early 2nd goal. Ruben saw his shot deflect just wide of the post and Eric had another great chance - Vulcans deserved to be at least level if not winning at this stage in the game. A great fast passing move provided Caelun with a chance although his shot went just wide. Denton won a free kick just outside the Vulcans area which they smashed home to make it 2-0. Shortly after, just before half time, Raffi made a determined run and struck the ball well to score a great goal making it 2-1 at half time. Vulcans started the second half on the front foot again and it paid off. Vulcans were awarded a free kick and as soon as Raffi stepped up to take it we all knew it would be in, and it was 2-2. Denton continued to play the long ball game which led to them hitting the woodwork and Raffi did well to head it clear preventing a certain goal. Cam made a great block in defence although Vulcans couldn’t manage to clear their lines and the ball was scrambled in by Denton making it 3-2. Denton grabbed another goal shortly after making it 4-2. Vulcans didn’t let their heads drop and knew how important it was it to keep the deficit to a minimum. Ruben fired in making it 4-3 just before the full time whistle after a great overall team passing move.
With the tie hanging in the balance the second Vulcans team took to the pitch and started the game well just like the first Vulcans team. There were early chances for Vulcans with Nic striking one over the bar form a Vulcans corner, Ben seeing his free kick go just wide of the post and Markel also having a great shot go just wide of the post. Turns out that these were all markers for future chances. Freddie made a great save from a Denton free kick to keep the score at 0-0.Vulcans won a corner which Adam struck well to find Markel who passed on for Nic to slot it over the keeper at the far post to put Vulcans 1-0 up. Shortly after Freddie did really well to tip a Denton shot over the bar. Vulcans won another corner and Adam played a great ball in which Nic volleyed in from close range (Nasri like according to dad!) making it 2-0 to Vulcans and 5-4 to Vulcans on aggregate. Ben saw a free kick go just wide of the post and following a scramble in the Denton box the ball came out to Nic just outside the area which he smashed in to make it 3-0 and his hat-trick. Spectators were loving the game with quotes from our fans of ‘Brill’ from Zac at half time. Second half Vulcans were keen to put the tie out of sight and from a lovely passing move Markel played the pass of the match inside the fullback for Nic to run on to and slot home past the keeper to make it 4-0 – it was like watching Silva to Aguerro! Vulcans were becoming rampant and Joel made an amazing run down the left to the bi-line, going past several players and put across a wonderful ball for Nic to tap in at the back post – 5-0. Vulcans could now see their place in the final and continued to press with Ben having a powerful driving run and shot which provided Vulcans 6th and a well deserved goal for Ben who had worked really hard throughout. Vulcans played some lovely passing football and more good work and shot from Ben , which the keeper could only parry out provided Markel with the opportunity to score which he did and got his well deserved goal to make it 7-0.
All players in both team played tremendously well, worked hard and ensured that the team who deserved to win went through to the final – well done boys!.

Curson Ashton Blues - 5 Vs 3 - Reddish Vulcans
Man of the Match: Markel & Joel
    Goal(s) Scored by: Raffi (1), Curzon O.G (1) Ashton (1)
The first game was very closely contested with both teams battling hard to gain and keep possession which was difficult in the very wet conditions. In the first half Curzon took the lead after Freddy had made a great save from a long range shot which he did well to push out wide of his goal although unfortunately the ball was picked up by an unmarked Curzon player at the back post to slot in from close range. Vulcans kept going and applied some real pressure to Curzon which paid off when Caelun showed good strength to shoot from outside the Curzon penalty area and Raffi followed up to tap in the loose ball. Continued pressure from Vulcans brought a second well earned goal before half time which was created by a great free kick from Ashton which the defence couldn’t deal with and they headed in an own goal. This made it 2-1 to Vulcans at half time. In the second half Vulcans continued to fight hard with Matthew and Charlie being strong in their defensive duties and Ben, Markel. Caelun and Raffi working hard to win the ball back and create chances. The third goal of the game came from a great piece of football – Markel did an excellent turn and pass for Ashton to chip the keeper from distance – great goal! The first game finished 3-1 which was a well deserved victory by the boys.
The second game was a very hard fought game for the boys. Curzon, like Vipers last week didn’t have sufficient player numbers and had to play some of their stronger players in the second game. Vulcans were under constant pressure for the whole of the first half and struggled to get into the opposition half. With their limited chances in the first half Nic had a good shot saved from close range. Tom and Ted were defending really well and were unlucky to concede when a defensive clearance deflected off a Curzon player into the top corner which Finn could do nothing about. Joel, Cameron and Adam worked hard in midfield although with Vulcans trying to push forward were caught out on the break. In the second half Adam was unlucky not score from a good free kick and Glory and Luca came on as substitutes working hard to try and change the game although chances for Vulcans were very limited and Curzon went on to win the game 4-0.
Heads up boys, keep going, Curzon were a good team and you’ve beaten them once this season.

Great performance by the lads a huge improvement on last year, so close to beating Fletcher Moss who we must not forget are mostly academy players. The attitude and commitment of the players in the game deserved a win. A special mention to Ben Brunton who tried to win the game himself! well done..

Hurricanes and Spitfires - 5 Vs 5 - Glossop North End
Man of the Match: Ben and Nic
Goal(s) Scored by: Ashton (2), Caelan, Nic, Taylor
A great game to watch with both teams playing a good passing game. Vulcans started very strongly. Caelan's corss/shot was deflected in and Ashton added a second with a fine shot from outside the area. Glossop pulled one back before Ashton added a second just before half-time. Glossop had the better second half, scoring four goals to lead 5-3 after the first game. Finn was playing well again in goal, but was unable to reach a couple of deflected shots. The team that came out for the second half were intent on restoring the lead - Raffi chasing everything in sight and Taylor making his usual incisive runs. The first goal came with a stunning long range shot from Nic and Vulcans were able to finish the match level when Taylor grabbed a well deserved goal.

Vulcans started slowly and were 0-2 down at half-time. They came out firing after the break and had lots of shots on goal before a goal from Caelan and a great lob by Cameron brought them level. Finn kept the scores level with a string of fine saves in the second game. Vulcans went ahead for the first time thanks to an own goal and Adam made it 4-2 with a goal from a corner. Curzon pulled one back to make it a tense last couple of minutes but the boys held on brilliantly to make it throught to the semis.

Taylor scored four for the second week running in a great performance by the Vulcans. Great passing, good finishing and a brilliant goal-keeping display from Finn made it a very enjoyable match. Ashton is growing in confidence with every game he plays with the older boys and celebrated a well-taken goal with a huge smile on his face. Solid defending by Ruben and Tom helped the team to another fine win.

The first game was very close - Cheshire Boys took the lead twice before Vulcans finally lead 3-2. The lead then switched and ended up 5-4 to the opposition. The second half was much more one-sided, with Vulcans putting together good passing movements to score plenty of goals, including four from Taylor.

A very competitive game. Ben put the Vulcans ahead after 5 minutes. The opposition pulled one back soon after and then went 2-1 up just before half-time. Logan scored a great free kick to equalise after the break and had chances before the end but was unable to make any count. Vulcans started the second game strongly, with a great volley from Nic restoring the lead and Adam adding to it with a well taken goal from Ashton's cross. Curzon pulled two back then Caelan score what could have been the winner before a fine late equaliser made it 3-3 and 5-5 overall.

Goal(s) Scored by: Ashton, Logan and Adam
Vulcans wre short of a few U8 players for this cup game and called up some younger players who, despite the scoreline, had great games. Vulcans had a dream start - Ashton put the team one up in the opening minute, Charlie made a great save before logan made it 2-0 before half-time in the first game. Fletcher Moss were straight back into it with two quick goals in the second half. They scored another three before full time to make it 2-5. Despite starting the second game a player short, Fletcher Moss racked up seven goals in the first half. The final half was much tighter - Fletcher Moss scored again before Adam scored a well deserved goal.

Vulcans were really up for it from the start, racing to a 4-0 lead by half-time in the first game. Taylor made constant runs through the Villa defence, setting up the other players for fine goals. The opposition claimed the only goal of a tighter second half to leave Vulcans in a strong position. In the second game Finn was beaten by a great lob but Raffi extended the lead with two goals in a minute before half-time. Nick scored a brilliant goal in off the post after kick-off. Raffi completed his hat-trick and Ben made the score 5-1.Villa kept going and grabbed two goals back to make the final score 9-4 on aggregate and a great win for the team.

Man of the Match: Cameron and Nick
Goal(s) Scored by: Cameron (3), Logan (2), Adam (2), Caelan (2), Tom, Raffi, Taylor.
Vulcans dominated throughout this cup tie, relected in the scoreline. In the first team, the boys exposed the gaps in the Denton team, who were playing with only 5 players, and made almost every chance count. Brilliant pass and move football, aided by assertive goalkeeping from Finn, allowed Cameron to chalk up his hat-trick. Caelan and Logan got two each and all of the strikers were grateful for Taylor's great wing play. The referee appeared to blow early for the end of the game, with Vulcans 8-0 up. The team that came out for the second game were a bit overawed at having to follow that up and went behind to a stronger Denton team. They eventually got into their stride however, and produced a fantastic comeback to win their match 4-3.

Hurricanes and Spitfires - 1 Vs 12 - Viper Whites
Man of the Match: Taylor and Ruben
    Goal(s) Scored by: Ruben
A difficult game against a very skillful and physical team. Vulcans found it hard to defend Viper's corners and were soon 2-0 down. By half-time they were 3 down and then in the second half went further behind before the ball rolled to Ruben on the half-way line and he lofted the ball over evryone (bar Finn) to score a rare but spectacular goal. Finn made some brave saves with all parts of his body but Vulcans finished the first game 7-1 down. The second game started with lots of Vulcans pressure - Taylor had an early chance and Rafffi and Ben fought hard - but Vipers scored two more before half-time. Vulcans put together some flowing passing moves in the second half bu were beaten by a good team on the day.

Glossop were clearly a strong side. Fynn made good early saves and Vulcans showed good passing early on. Glossop scored first and Caelan equalised. In the second half Caelan scored again but Vulcans were unlucky to concede late on. In the second match Glossop again scored first and Vulcans responded with countless attacks, hitting the woodwork before Adam equalised with a fantastic strike. Vulcans kept the pressure on and Kenzie scored a second. The second half started with more great chances or the Vulcans it was Glossop that equalised. Ben came close with several attempts before the opposition scored a brekaway winner. Another great performance against a very strong team that shows the potential of our team.

Just like last wek's Manchester derby, Vulcans v. Villa proved to be a one-sided affair. Vulcans put in a great team performance, with every player doing what was expected of them. Man of the (first) Match Finlay had an outstanding couple of games; a clean sheet in the first and no blame in any of the three conceded in the second game. Man of the (second) Match Adam released the ball with perfect timing to put out forwards clear. Vulcans had plenty of chances in the first game, but had to wait until the second half to draw clear through goals by Ben and Caelan, who beat several defenders before scoring in the bottom corner. Caelan added a third after Ashton provided an incisive pass to put hin clear to make it 3-0 at the end of the first game. Things were looking up after last week's disappointing defeat - perhaps Jason Harney was our lucky mascot! Vulcans had early pressure in the second game - Cam shot over and Nic had a fine shot blocked, but Villa scored first. Kenzie equalised, Finlay saved a powerful shot and Villa hit the post before Nic produced the goal of the day with an exquisite lob over the keeper. The boys on the touchline eruped into an impromptu rendition of "Happy Birthday To You" that brought a trar to the eye of Alison Harney. Kenzie made it 3-1 in the second half before Villa staged a fight-back, scoring two in succession.Nic grabbed the winner with a deflected shot to make it 4-3 and 7-3 on aggregate to the Vulcans.

The flasks had their first outing of the season after a sharp frost, which also led to tricky conditions on the pitch. The pitch was white-over for most ofthe first game, helping the slick passing game favoured by the Vulcans but making shooting difficult as the ball tended to fly off the astro unpredictably. Despite these conditions, Vulcans were able to score six again and hit the woodwork a further six times, dominating the game to advance to the semi-finals.
The game started with plemty of Vulcans' pressure - Ruben shooting over before Raffi and Caelan began to link up well in attack. Vulcans had the ball in the net when the ball was rifled into the bottom corner, but fourth official Chris Bickley quickly alerted the ref to the 'fact' that it was a corner.
Dukinfield scored against the run of play and Caelan hit the post before half-time.
Vulcans could have gone further behaind soon after half-time when they were penalised for a back-pass. Finn held his ground to make a vital save before Caelan finally latched onto a pass to equalise. Vulcans continued to press for a winner, with Raffi hitting the post from distance and Charlie heading over, but the score was tied at 1-1 after the first game.
As in recent games, the second match was more clear cut. Markel started brightly, hitting the post before Ashton made his mark with a goal in the bottom corner and an assist for Joel, whose header helped the ball over the line (although without the goaline technology of Chris Bickley, it could have been Ashton's!).
Ashton continued to impress, hitting the crossbar and forcing a save, but it was Dukinfield that scored just before half-time to make it 3-2 on aggregate. There as a tense moment after the break when Dukinfield scored direct from a throw in. The inexperienced ref looked to the crowd for advice and Chris B was able to redeem himself by ruling that the goal could not stand. Ashtoon hit the post (again) before Ben rifled in a free kick from the right after being well and truly sandwiched by two defenders. Ben and Ashton made the result safe with further goals. A great squad performance again - solid defensive performances and impressive contributions form substitutes underlining the strength in depth of the Vulcans. Good times!

On paper, a virtual repeat of last week's comprehensive win over one of our most repscted opponents (LOL). First game was 6-0 to the Vulcans, featuring the usual pushing, goalie strops and magnificent passing - you decide who did what. The second game was a closer affair, with Ben scoring the only Vulcans goal to draw 1-1. According to Kev, the Vulcans 'smashed it', Andy reckoned it was 'a bloodbath', while Chris Bickley stated 'I had a juice for breakfast, a small butty for dinner and just this cup a soup for me tea.' Stewart Brunton later commented '7k run and 1km swim with armbands completed... off for a walk with my dog.'

Hopes were high after last week's comprehensive victory and the boys did the business to push aside Droylsden 7-2 and progress to the quarter-finals of the cup. Col Brunton summed it up at the final whistle when stating how hard it was to choose a man of the match in such a great squad performance. Vulcans had to start without goalie Fin, suffering from a sickness bug, but were rewarded by a superb display by Freddie, who pulled off a number of fingertip saves to preserve Vulcans' deserved lead. Vulcans were committed to the impressive interplay that has become a regular feature of their matchplay, and despite going ahead with a goal from a corner, Droylsden were unable to match the passing and movement of the Vulcans and soon resorted to more basic tactics. Raffi equalised with a second chance after a well taken free kick, tucking the interplay betball into corner. Caelan had a great shot deflected before firing in a brilliant goal with his back to the net and a sublime swivel and volley. Vulcans never looked back after this and drew further ahead; great interrplay between Caelan and Raffi lead to a fine second goal for Raffi. Freddie continued to keep the team clear with great saves, Ruben and E4ric linked up well on the left but Droylsden pulled one back to make it 3-2 at at the end and all to play for.
Any doubt about the final result was soon cleared up when Vulcans scored straight from the kick off in the second game. After great work by Joel, Kensie tucked the ball away. Freddie continued to earn his m.o.m with an unbelievable double finger-tip save. Markel and Kensie scored to make it 3-0 before Ben added a fourth with a beautiful curling and dipping free-kick over the defence and keeper. The opposition couldn't cope with the Vulcans' ball control and resorted to physical play, but were still unable to break Vulcans' spirit and prevent them notching up another great win.
Note: Goal scorers usually get a mention because they do just that . . . . a massive well done is also due to every player in the squad - you all contributed today!

    Hurricanes & Spitfires - 12 Vs 5 - 3D Dynamos
Man of the Match: Ruben & Joel
Goal(s) Scored by: Eric, Kensie, Ruben, Markel (3), Nic (3), Adam (2), Ben
Dynamos were left looking decidedly two dimensional after a fine performance by the Vulcans squad. Raees and Stewart made a few key changes that made the Gold and Silver teams more balanced, and this paid off with a convincing win. Eric opened the scoring very early on with a goal into the bottom corner after good work by Caelan and Raffi. Caelan saved a possible goal with great tackling back, but Dynamos equalised against the run of play with a soft goal that went through a crowded area to pass under Finn's feet. The pressure was all from the Vulcans though, Cameron had a shot saved and Raffi's attempt from half-way went just wide. Dynamos took control after half-time, scoring two goals on the breakaway. Finn had no chance against three attackers and then saw his fine save headed in on the rebound. Kensie battled hard to pull one back before Ruben grabbed the equaliser in the final seconds with a powerful shot.

The second game was much more one-sided, with Vulcans racing to a 7-0 lead in the first half. Markel scored first, quickly followed by Adam, who was having a great game, chasing back to help out the defence and making good runs down the wing. Markel added a second after good work by M.O.M Joel. Nic robbed the last Dynamos defender of the ball on the half-way line before beating the goalie form distance. Vulcans were now rampant and Ben scored before Markel completed his hat-trick.

Joel is looking more confident with every game and his mazy run through the opposition's defence allowed Adam to grab a second. The boys were now lining up to get on the scoresheet, with Tom enjoying his attacking role. In fact Ben was so keen to score again that he tackled his own player, causing Uncle Stew to wag his finger. Dynamos pulled one back against the run of play to make it 8-1. Nic was desperate to get his hat-trick, and indeed should have been awarded it when his shot beat the goalie, crossed the line and rebounded back out off the stanchion. Dynamos added a second before justice was done and Nic completed his hat-trick in style to make it 9-2 in the second game. A very convincing victory, with every member of the squad playing their part and producing some really mature football. Same again in the Cup next week lads!

    Hurricanes & Spitfires - 9 Vs 2 - Stockport Junior Blues
Man of the Match: Raffi & Adam
Goal(s) Scored by: Raffi (3), Caelan (2), Markel, Ben, Nic, Cameron
New signings this week meant that the existing players may be feeling the pressure to prove their worth, especially after last week's heavy defeat. It soon became clear that they were up to the challenge and the Vulcans produced an exhilarating performance to outclass Junior Blues. Despite the early kick off time the boys were out of the blocks quickly, with Ben, Raffi and new boy Markel linking up well. Ben opened the scoring with a fine solo goal. Raffi added a second with a spectacular shot over the keeper that was definitely intentional and in now way meant to be a cross (according to Andy). Finn made some good close range saves to stake his claim to the No1 jersey. Markel and Caelan made it 4-0 after the break before the opposition pulled one back with a scrambled goal. Ben was brought down for a penalty, which Raffi managed to slam against the bar. Soon after he slotted a free kick into the top corner before putting away a penalty to make it 6-1. Caelan added another before Junior Blues added a second. Vulcans dominated and controlled this first game, with existing and new players giving their all, and your reporter was able to slip away on his holidays eagerly awaiting details of the second match. A brief text was received when I stopped for comfort break by Loch Lomond, so apologies if this game doesn't get as many column inches. Vulcans continued to play well, new keeper Ethan keeping a clean sheet and Nic continuing his scoring run, despite playing a vital defensive role. Eric had a good debut and Adam must have played well to be awarded Man of the Match. Team captain Cameron added a second to make it a convincing 9-2 victory (or 10-2 if you use the same counting system as Colin Brunton). Well done boys. Any volunteers for next week's reporting - I'll probably just be passing Loch Lomond at that time.

    Hurricanes & Spitfires - 1 Vs 9 - Vipers Nemesis
Man of the Match: Ted & Matt
    Goal(s) Scored by: Nic
It’s impossible to replace our roving reporter Chris Toyne (with his sheepskin coat and nicely sharpened pencil) although today we had no choice other than to draft in a last minute substitute – a woman for goodness sake – what do they know about football!
It is really hard to write a report on this match given the controversy that surrounded the whole game. Vipers put out a strong team for the first game – oh and they put the strongest of their strong team for the second game too – how does that work? although it was good to see that as a more sporting club we played the game by the rules and allowed all of our boys to play football which is what it’s all about.
The first game was a hard fought game with Vipers having the better of the first half and Finn made some great saves to keep them out in the early stages. Ben, Raffi and Joel linked up well to make headway well into the Vipers half although Vipers broke away with the ball and scored to go 1-0 up. Good work by Caelun forced the Vipers 6ft tall keeper into making a good save and Ben reacted well and saw his first time shot go just wide of the post. The start of the second half saw the Vulcans come out fighting and had some good pressure early on. Unfortunately the boys were unable to capitalise from a number of corner opportunities. The team also defended well with Ted making some great tackles to ensure the deficit remained at 1-0. As the second half progressed Vulcans grew in confidence and were unlucky not to equalise as Raffi, Caleun and Ben all had chances and just as we thought there was a goal coming for the Vulcans the full time whistle went – great effort boys – well done – you deserved more from this game.
The second game under normal league rules would have been forfeited by Vipers as they didn’t have enough players. Instead the game went ahead and Vipers played their strongest team (again!). This was a real challenge for our boys and despite being constantly under pressure and very quickly 2-0 down they tried to keep their composure and put the pressure on Vipers. Following some good defending by Matt and Tom, battling by Luca and Adam, the ball broke to Nic who saw his left foot shot tipped round the post by the keeper. Despite battling well the boys soon found themselves 3-0 down and Adam was unlucky not to get a goal back when he forced the keeper into making a good save. Adam and Cameron linked up well to create another chance before Vipers scored 2 more in quick succession to make it 5-0. To their credit the boys didn’t give up and Glory and Adam linked up well before Vipers score their 6th and 7th. Nic pulled a goal back for Vulcans before Vipers score their 8th and final goal of the day. Without some great defending by Matt and Tom the scoreline could have been heavier although Finn’s overall great goalkeeping performance did not merit conceding this many goals, never mind any more. Keep your heads up boys and keep going – you won’t be playing teams like that every week.
Come back Chris (John Motson) Toyne – all is forgiven!

Same result as last week, same men of the match! An even first half with just a scrambled goal by Cameron to make it 1-0. Caelan claimed the second after half-time, Droylesden pulled one back then Adam made it 3-1 with a great header. Raffi put Vulcans 4-1 up on aggregate before a bit of a wobble saw Droylsden pull it back to 4-3. Ben scored a great goal at the end of a fine passing move and Droylsdem had time for one more before Vulcans claimed another good win.

A change of venues and a greta performance from the Vulcans. Raffi scored in the first minute with a shot across the goal to beat the keeper. Vulcans piled on the pressure but couldn't increase the lead before half-time. Taylor shor just wide after the break before Raffi got his second. Denton scored with a breakaway goal. Vulcans had numerous chances go just wide and Ashton hit the post leaving it 2-1 after a first game that could have been 7 or 8-1. Denton were first to score in the second game before Adam followed up a Logan shot with a beautiful chip to equalise. Denton scored again before half-time to make it 3-3 on aggregate. This continued in the final half - Caelan lobbed their keeper, they scored and then Tom fireed in a rebound from a corner to win the game for Vulcans. Great entertainment!

    Hurricanes & Spitfires - 2 Vs 7 - Glossop North End
Man of the Match: Ben & Ted
    Goal(s) Scored by: Ben, Caelan
A disappointing result for the Vulcans. Glossop were a physical team, playing a long ball game that paid off when our boys lost their shape and were unable to cover the breakaways. Glossop went in front early on before adding a second with an unstoppable shot. Ben pulled one back before half-time with an incredible long range volley that dipped visciously under the bar. Gary Statham's controlled volley to return the ball to their keeper was almost a match for Ben's strike. The referee made some bizarre play on decisions that tested the crowd's 'FA Respect' guidelines, but comments were low-key references to Specsavers. Ben and Caelan continued to press for the Vulcans, dominating midfield at times but unable to break through. Glossop went 5-1 up, looking more and more like Wimbledon of old before Caelan's great footwork earned him a fine invividual goal to make it 5-2. There was still a belief that the result could be turned around in the second game - Ted was onto everything in defence and Charlie seeing more of the ball. Glossop scored first with a screamer though, and after Kenzie had hit the post early in the second half they added a second to make it 7-2 on aggregate and a game to forget.

Man of the Match: Nik & Ruben
Goal(s) Scored by: Nik (3), Ben, Adam, Ruben.
Lots of positives from the two games but Vulcans contrived to lose both. The boys attacked well, linking passes to produce flowing football (and were denied by great goal-keeping on numerous occasions), but failed to clear their lines when defending and conceded too many soft goals. Nik was outstanding in the first game, scoring a hat-trick form left-back. Ashton was unlucky not to score form a few long-range efforts before Ben scored a powerful volley from a corner. Vulcans took the lead twice but lost the first game 4-5. Glory showed greater confidence in his second game, moving the ball down the wing before crossing or shooting. FC Sports scored first with a breakaway goal, before Adam equalised after good work by Luca on the right. Ruben chipped the keeper to put Vulcans ahead and Cameron had a good chance saved. Finn produced a good double save but could not keep out the rebound and FC won with a great individual goal to make the second game 2-3 and 6-8 on aggregate.

    Dukinfield Youth Greens - 6 Vs 8 - Hurricanes & Spitfires
Man of the Match: Raffi & Matty
Goal(s) Scored by: Caelan (3), Raffi (2), Ben, Charlie, Tom.
A new season and a new venue and an early start. Vulcans went behind early on after a free kick was awarded for a back pass. This early error spurred the team on to a fine performance in the first game, where their experience of playing as a team and great passing moves allowed them to put six past Dukinfield. Caelan scored the first after a quick breakaway before Raffi added a second with a well-taken individual goal. Both added a second after half-time before Ben rounded off a fine performance with a deserved goal. Caelan claimed his hat-trick with a deflected goal before the end to cap a great performance. The second match was a different matter, with most of the team playing together for the first time. The game started off evenly before Dukinfield went two up. Cameron headed just over before Charlie scored from close range. Vulcans had early pressure in the second half but the opposition took their chances to go 4-1 up. Tom blasted in a free kick after Glory was fouled but a fifth goal was conceded to leave Vulcans hanging on 8-6.

Ben was scored a brilliant first-half hat-trick to put Vuolcans 3-1 up at half-time. Jnr Blues pulled one back before Raffi made it 4-2. The second game was a lot closer. Jnr Blues pulled one back with a cross from the left to an unmarked player, but Vulcans held on to win 4-3 on aggregate.

The first game was evenly matched - Vulcan playing with confidence against the strong Fletcher Moss team. The first goal was conceded just before half-time. The boys came out strongly, playing flowing football but were unable to convert chances and ended the first game 0-3 down. It was a similar story in the second game - Caelan and Ashton had some good chances but were denied by good goalkeeping. Fletcher Moss scored another three and Vulcans will have to wait a bit longer to beat this team.

    Hurricanes & Spitfires - 7 Vs 4 - Reddish Villa
Man of the Match: Caelan & Fynn
Goal(s) Scored by: Taylor (2), Caelan (2), Ben, Raffi, Fynn
The last game of the season saw some of the best football, with the ball being passed out from the back and great link up play leading to Vulcans winning the first game 4-0 with two goals each for Caelan and Taylor. Fynn pulled off some close range saves and Nic hit the crossbar. Things started well in the second game when Ben scored the first. Villa pulled oone back before Raffi restored the lead. The management decided to have a bit of fun in the second half, putting Logan in goal and moving Fynn to centre forward. Logan made some great saves before Villa began a mini-revival and scored three quick goals to make the aggregate score 6-4. Everyone was screaming for a Fynn goal and it finally came with a cool back heel to nudge the ball over the line and spark a pile on at the final whistle.

The 'Tough Mudders' had it easy this weekend compared to the pain inflicted on those that turned up to watch this match! The 'Gold' team set things up with a storming 5-1 victory before the 'Silver' team allowed Curzon to draw level, before staging a fantastic come-back, scoring two late goals to seal victory in this cup tie. Raffi and Caelan had chances early on before Caelan put Vulcans 1-0 upfrom the penalty spot - no-one was quite sure why the penalty was awared but this was indicative of the referee's performance throughout. For the firat time in thre seasons every 'foul' throw was pulled up, breaking up the flow of the game and challenging Andy Day's commitment to the 'FA Respect' guidelines. The smile was soon restored to Andy's face by a fine individual goal by Raffi. Finlay made a great save to tip a shot onto the cross bar and Caelan made it 3-0 with a second penalty after being hacked down inside the box. Curzon pulled one back befor half-time with a rare breakaway goal. Caelan completed his hat-trick soon after the interval when he tucked away a rebound at the far post. Ben kept up his run of spectacular strikes with a stunnning free kick from the half-way line to underline another dominant performance from him and his team-mates. Apologies to any player not mentioned - a fantastic team performance to outclass Curzon 5-1.
The 'Silver' team faced more of a challenge in the second game - nothing went their way in the first half. Cameron had a good shot saved early on, Finlay pulled off a great save fom a powerful shot from distance, before Curzon raced to a 4-0 lead. New boy Joel found his feet in the second half, holding off challenging and threading the ball through to the attackers. The defence was shored up by moving Nic back and the team began to threaten. Kenzie pulled one back to make it 1-4 (6-5) before Curzon drew level with an unexplained free kick. Both sets of supporters were getting jittery now - Finlay made a fine save before Cameron lifted everyone with a cool finish and Nic secured victory with a trademark freekick from distance to restoe a two goal lead before the pedantic ref finally blew for full time. A classic cup tie with great performances from both established and upcoming Vulcan players.
